The three days non-stop rain due to the monsoon rain have caused flooding in Metro Manila. Many had to wade thru the floods to help rescue, to go home, to evacuate and for whatever reasons. the danger of floodwater disease, especially leptospirosis, is real.
So, for those who waded in floodwater during the three days non-stop rain, suggested Prophylaxis for Leptospirosis:
LOW Risk Exposure:
( History of wading WITHOUT wounds )
- Doxycycline 100 mg/cap, 2 caps as single dose within 24-72 hours on a FULL stomach
MODERATE Risk Exposure:
( History of wading WITH open wounds / scratch )
- Doxycycline 200 mg once daily for 3-5 days.
HIGH Risk Exposure
( Continuous exposure especially if exposed for several days- yung araw-araw nasa baha )
- Doxycycline 200 mg once weekly until the end of exposure.
Contra-indicated for PREGNANT PATIENTS and CHILDREN below 8 years old.
Prophylaxis is NOT 100% Protective. Monitor of fever, chills, muscle pains, calf pains, jaundice and decreasing urine output 2-21 days after exposure .
Remember also to wash feet thoroughly. Keep yourself dry at all times. Drinking a lot of clean water will boost your system, couple it with immunustimulants like fruits and vegies.
The Bible reminds us to always take precautionary measures. In Proverbs 2:11, it tells us, "Carefulness will protect you..." God bless and keep safe friends...

Tips: Notes in Relevant Christian Blogging
Here are THREE important notes that I have to remind myself when writing a Christian Blog:
1. Explode a myth.
- Most Christians think that what they believe is a valid Christian thought, only to find out that it is a product of pop culture. This is where good Christian theology will play an important part in your blog. For example, an image of Christ is a long-haired blue-eyed male Caucasian. Then you point out that Jesus probably looks more like a sun-tanned male Arab and people are surprised.
2. Write about everyday life.
- "Christianity is about being spiritual and things about the soul and the unseen and the supernatural. It is not about everyday practical life." Such distorted understanding of faith is the reason Christianity does not make sense. But when you blog about how an early morning drive to work can be a Christian activity, then people understand what living a Christian life means. For example, taking a morning bath everyday is a Christian act that shows taking care of the temple of God and presenting ourselves worthy before the Lord.
3. Share a good news.
- We know that the "Good News" should always be shared. God's redeeming love through Jesus Christ is manifest in different ways and forms. People should recognize it through the Christians' life testimony. When you write about it, educate or inspire people. And don't forget to spell out for them the Good News. For example, it's your birthday and you want to throw a party then go ahead. But remember that your birthday is a reminder of the day God gave you life. Not only a temporary life, but life eternal through Jesus. And that precious new life given by God is worthy of celebration and praise.
These THREE simple notes to myself when writing a Christian blog helps me keep the content relevant for my readers. However, like everything else, remember to pray that what you blog glorifies God. For your reader has been prepared by God to be blessed through your blogs.

Broken toys
How do we perceive holistic being among differently-abled persons? How useful are they really for us? My kid reminds me how with the toys he plays with. As we were fixing our stuff to move into the new apartment, I told
Ken that we should throw away his Batman toy because it's missing a hand
and a feet. "You won't have any use of this toy because it no longer
has two hands and two legs." He replied quite assertively, " but you
said even people who do not have hands and feet can still be useful.
This toy can still be useful!"
Sometimes, our prejudices translates into the small things that we say and think. This as we tend to separate our life perspectives into what is "reality" and what is "ideal." But little children understand things in a more holistic way. Everything is the same for all things - toys or not. How you perceive a toy is how you perceive all things.
It is a good reminder for us to have integrity in what we say. If we say that people with only one hand or one leg or one eye are differently-abled persons, it must be so too for toys!

Intensive Training
What is the importance of undergoing an orientation course? What more if there was an intensive course aside from that. Last July 22 until Aug 2, I attended a 2 week intensive training to know the foundations, principles and concepts behind this new Christian organization (CSO) I will be connected with. I thought of the importance of this training for the organization because I have to buy in to what they believe if I am going to be part of them. I remembered my confirmation class and the importance of it to those seeking membership to the United Methodist Church. You have to affirm the UMC principles and beliefs or seek membership elsewhere.
The two weeks of Intensive Training helped me understood why they are intentional in their identity as Christians, what it means not to proselytize and commit spiritual abuse. More than that, I learned the dynamics that helped me understood their business process. At the end of the day, the question needs to be asked... if you buy them then you abide by them. If not, you are free to walk away. It reminds me of the early Methodist dictum, "Easy to become a Methodist, difficult to remain one." I wondered if how many among United Methodist today underwent confirmation class.
The confirmation class would have taught the polity of the United Methodist Church. What it meant to be global, episcopal and local and the importance of it in the life and ministry of the church. It would have instilled the meaning of "sacred trust" to all the properties of the church. If all United Methodist went through the confirmation class and really understood this, they would have the chance to accept or reject it and pursue their membership in the UMC. Otherwise, they can serve Christ in other venues. Me thinks, this calls for an advocacy to intensify and be intentional in our church membership procedure.
It made me wonder, and I really want to do an evidenced-based research on this, "How many among the leaders of the AIMP underwent confirmation class?" Just a thought!

Hupakouo is obedience
Last Monday, July 15, 2013, I was privileged to share with the World Vision staff a story about obedience to God.
Below is the link to the presentation:
http://prezi.com/nro5sclckcth/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy
Obeying is God is "hupakouo". It is listening to God's voice and submitting to God's will. It is a task we need to intentionally do every day as we journey in our faith. Obedience to God is the mark of a mature Christian. We obey God because we love God. John 14:15 reminds us that. When we obey God, we move closer towards Christ-likeness and Christian perfection. There we will experience shalom!
